HED 510: Introduction to Higher Education

This course provides a broad introduction to the salient aspects of American higher education by surveying current norms, trends and developments.
HED 602: Institutional Research /Strategic Planning in Higher Education
This seminar provides (a) an overview of policy research and planning in higher education (b) insight into current activities and processes in the field as described by notable guest lecturers, and (c) an opportunity for students to design, undertake and report on an applied research project under close supervision by the instructor.
HED 687: Governance and Coordination in Higher Education
This course deals with the manner in which higher education systems and institutions are governed and coordinated as well as the impact external forces have on their operation. Major topics to be covered include: the history of governance, board roles and characteristics, policy development and decision making, legal issues, selection of board member and staff, faculty and student roles in governance, current issues in governance and coordination, and the organization of selected state systems of higher education.
